"We need to talk about art as a science.
For example, painting is the same mathematics, where the basics should be present. In algebra, arithmetic, geometry in part, there are some basics. As in literature – there are letters, there is a word, there is a sentence, and without them you can't express in any way ... and in painting the same thing – there are certain terms that you need to know and that help you. Let's say a point to the left, a point to the right. One can draw one line - and a ready–made canvas, and the other - no matter how much he drives this line, well, it doesn't go and that's it, it doesn't work. Where is this line? Naturally, within the talent of this artist..
.
Yes, thoughtfulness, every thing in the work should not be accidental. It's like a surgeon's job.
You can't give free rein to your hands, and give in only to emotions: here I will cut this, and this is superfluous…

And all this knowledge is scientific knowledge. How to combine color, how to get into shape, how to distribute these volumes of one spot and another, where you need, there may be a residence permit, and where it may come to naught. And from this, what we call a picture is assembled."
