Evgeny Kryukov

Evgeny Kryukov

b. 1936

Drawing lies at the core of Evgeny Kryukov’s work, articulated through line and rhythm. His sheets are formed through intersections, breaks, and layers of lines and marks, creating a dense pictorial structure.

Colour is used as an accent within the composition, intensifying rhythm and spatial depth. Paper becomes an integral part of the image; its texture and tone are incorporated alongside line and mark. Within Kryukov’s abstract drawing, figurative motifs occasionally appear: boats, architectural fragments, and natural forms.

His artistic work encompassed painting, stained glass, and ceramics. In the last decades of his life, his primary focus was drawing.

Evgeny Kryukov was born in Moscow in 1936. He graduated from the Stroganov Art School.
Works by the artist are held in museum and private collections in Russia, the United States, and Europe.
